Rising above Meelstraat’s charming façade, the Oude Stadhuis of Zierikzee dates back to 1550–1554. The Oude Stadhuis is a stunning Renaissance town hall in the heart of Zierikzee. Once the city’s seat of government and justice, it now houses the Stadhuismuseum, where visitors can explore historic rooms, court chambers, and exhibits on Zierikzee’s rich civic and maritime past.

The Gravensteen, built in 1525 in the center of Zierikzee, is one of the city’s most historic buildings. Once the seat of justice and the region’s oldest prison, it housed courtrooms, officials, and inmates under one roof for nearly 400 years. Inside, you’ll find original prison cells, narrow staircases, and centuries-old graffiti carved by prisoners.

Located in Zierikzee’s historic harbour, the Oude Haven Museum showcases Zeeland’s rich seafaring past. Visitors can explore a fleet of restored historic ships and visit the nearby shipyard where traditional craftsmanship is still alive.

Standing proudly on the city’s old fortifications, Den Haas is one of Zierikzee’s most iconic and picturesque windmills. Built in 1727, this traditional Dutch tower mill has been a symbol of the town’s rich milling heritage for nearly three centuries. Den Haas played a vital role in grinding grain for the local community until well into the 20th century.

The Dikke Toren (translated as "Thick Tower") is a prominent landmark in Zierikzee. Originally part of the St. Lievens Monastery, this 14th-century tower stands as a striking symbol of the town's medieval past. Its nickname, "dikke" (meaning thick), refers to its wide, sturdy structure, which has withstood centuries of storms, fires, and time. Standing tall at 56 meters, the Dikke Toren offers a remarkable panoramic view of Zierikzee and the surrounding landscape

The Zuidhavenpoort dates back to the 14th century, this impressive gate once served as a vital entrance to Zierikzee, controlling access to the bustling port. The Zuidhavenpoort is a striking example of medieval architecture, with its towering brick structure and characteristic pointed arches. Today, it stands as a testament to Zierikzee's maritime heritage and offers a glimpse into the town's strategic importance during the Middle Ages.

The Nieuwe Haven has evolved from a bustling trade hub to a picturesque harbor. Today, it hosts a mix of fishing vessels, including mussel boats, and recreational yachts. Adjacent to the harbor there are many picturesque streets and along the water there are many excellent restaurants and fish bars where you can sample some typical Dutch dishes

The Nobelpoort is the oldest of Zierikzee’s three remaining medieval city gates, built in the early 14th century after the 1304 Flemish siege. It served as a key defensive structure, featuring two distinctive towers—one octagonal and one hexadecagonal—and a drawbridge. The name’s origin is uncertain, possibly linked to a noble family or medieval coin. Today, Nobelpoort stands as a striking symbol of Zierikzee’s rich history and architecture.

Havenplein, once part of the Old Harbour, became a lively square in the late 19th century, hosting markets and events. The adjacent Gasthuiskerk, originally a 14th-century chapel, was expanded in 1651 to include a covered market hall, blending sacred and civic spaces. Still active today, the church reflects Zierikzee’s rich history and community spirit. Together, they offer a charming glimpse into the town’s maritime past and vibrant present

Montmaertre Square is a colourful, lively spot in central Zierikzee, transformed from a parking lot into a creative plaza. With murals, a playful frog fountain, and cozy cafés, it hosts seasonal art markets where local artists display and create work live. The square has become a popular gathering place for both locals and visitors seeking culture and relaxation.
